Life User Guide.
Media files such as digital photos, scanned documents,
video clips and audio files are ‘imported’
into School Life and then indexed, linked and organised
from within the software. During the import process
School Life creates a thumbnail image of the file, stores
this in the database and creates a link to the physical
file wherever it currently resides on the network. Files
of all sorts (including files from Windows-based applications)
can be linked to events in a multi-user school diary,
to people, to places, to the curriculum and to each
other.
School Life is designed to run on your school’s
local area network (LAN). If you use a client/server
network where the desktop PCs connect into a dedicated
server then the School Life database would typically
be installed on the server. If you use a simple ‘peer-to-peer’
network then the database would need to be installed
on a desktop PC which is usually powered up and available
during the day so that other PCs can connect to it.
School Life is a modern multi-media software application
and has no special hardware requirements over and above
other similar applications. Most PCs purchased since
